Big Ideas of SLA

In this section, I write about some of the big ideas about second language and foreign language learning that has come out of educational research and educational theory.

One of my concerns about education is the gap between educational research/theory on the one hand and educational practice on the other – both have much to learn from the other, but there is an awful lot that educational practice can gain from an understanding of theory and research, in particular WHY we should do certain thing. For example, why does student-student interaction support English language learning or why is explicit grammar instruction often ineffective?
